Olympic View PTA

OVPTA Newsletter - September 2020
Welcome Back to School, Eagles!!
Do you know what doesn't need a system update? The Olympic View Community! You're awesome and we appreciate you! Pass it on.

Don't Miss Virtual Familypalooza! Join us Tuesday, September 15th, at 6:00pm, for our annual family information night. Hear from the Olympic View PTA, the Arts Committee, and Principal Bean, who will discuss remote learning and answer some of your questions. We want to hear from you! What questions do you have about online learning? Please email them to us (activities@ovpta.org) and we will forward to Mr. Bean. Look for an email from Principal Bean, check out our website (ovpta.org) or the Facebook Olympic View Group for details.

Volunteers Needed! We're not in school in person, but the PTA still has big plans for the year, and we need more parents to help! Here are a few things we need help with right now.  We'll make sure no one is working alone or gets overwhelmed.  Please email president@ovpta.org with questions or to volunteer.
  1. Fall Festival: We're re-imagining this as a week of fun online events (probably not live - think scavenger hunt, art show, cake contest, dress up show, etc). Let us know if you can help.
  2. Meal Delivery: We know there are families in our school community who need school lunches but cannot pick them up. We're working with our new counselor and Mindy in the lunchroom to figure out a way to get lunches to these families. Let us know if you would be interested in helping to organize this or if you are able to pick up lunches and help deliver them to families. We don't have a lot of details on this yet, so stay tuned!
  3. Move-a-thon: It's months away, and we don't know if it will be in-person or virtual, but this is one of our big fundraisers. We need a few people to help with this event or take charge of it. The folks on the fundraising committee will be there to support you.
  4. Sensory Garden: Want to create a little magic on the OV grounds? Sign up to help. Social distancing in place. Please bring gloves + a shovel - thanks!!
Watch the OV Facebook page for dates or email Heather Abbott at generousgardening@gmail.com for a volunteer time that works for you.
  5. Alumni Stepping Stone Path: Liz Law could use the help of a few healthy people who want to help reinstall the stepping stones with fresh gravel, landscape cloth, and sand. Bring your own water, gloves, and mask. Meet at the garden in front of school near the flagpole. Help for part or all of any of the following shifts: Sat., Sept. 12, 9 am-Noon; Wed., Sept. 16, 5-7:30 PM; Thurs., Sept. 24, 5-7:30 PM and Sat., Sept. 26, 9-Noon. Contact Liz Law 206-965-0596 (cell) or email at melaw@seattleschools.org. Thanks!!!

School Supplies Drive: The OVPTA is still collecting donations to purchase school supplies for Olympic View students. This may include school-wide purchases as well as helping students who are unable to purchase supplies. We will work with teachers and staff now and throughout the year to find out what items will need to be purchased and how they will be distributed. Please make a contribution if you can. OVPTA.org/Donate
